Stacy’s visit to our school was a dream come true for our students.
— Ann Botel-Barnard, Language Arts Specialist Abington Friends School

Oh, how I adore elementary schools. The smell of potato wedges, the squeak of my sneakers on the linoleum tiles, and the bathrooms with their sinks (and toilets) that are just a little too low for me. Not to mention that I'm addicted to school supplies (so hide your crayons).

NEW! Writing with Stacy

This is an opportunity for students to learn new writing and creativity techniques from an author (me!) and for select students to share their work.

  • Visit Day 1 - I will speak with students (up to 5 classes) about my favorite writing exercises. This is an interactive workshop. Each session is 45 minutes.
  • Students will work on their picture book or short story for two to four weeks.
  • Educators will send me up-to twenty completed stories for feedback (a very light critique full of encouragement).
  • Visit Day 2 - Approximately four to six weeks after Day 1,  I will return to the school to celebrate with these twenty young authors. Students will have the opportunity to read their work and ask questions. We will have a special lunch.

This program is appropriate for students in third to eight grade. The fee is $1700 plus travel for both days.

Testimonials

Stacy’s visit to our school- Abington Friends School - was a dream come true for our students. Our Lower School students had been reading and listening to The Dino File A Mysterious Egg and our younger students had been intrigued by both her picture books and listening to The Dino Files read aloud. Our students listened with big smiles as she read excerpts from her books and told her family’s story of their own trip to look for dinosaur fossils in Montana and how this trip inspired her writing. They loved hearing how and why she wrote her various picture books. Our students loved her books so much that they read or listened to the entire trilogy of The Dino Files and read her picture books again and again.
— Ann Botel-Barnard, Language Arts Specialist Abington Friends School
Thank you so much for Skyping with us today! The students loved it! It was great fun to get to know you and your books!
— Aimee Sommers, Library Paraprofessional
Our students LOVED Stacy’s presentation. She really gets them involved in the publishing a book process.
— Laurel Cash, Media Specialist Del Prado Elementary
Stacy is extremely entertaining, and interesting. I especially enjoyed the game show she put on! I also really love how she engaged the students when she spoke to them.
— Lisa Luongo, 2nd Grade Teacher Sunset Palms Elementary
Entertaining and educational! Our students loved the interactive game and are still singing the dinosaur stomp song.
— Holly Russ, Media Coordinator Rutherford College Elementary School
We so enjoyed having Stacy last school year that we were going to see if she was available again this year.
— Tina Heitman, Media Coordinator Davis Townsend Elementary
The K-2 students at Anderson Creek Primary loved having Stacy visit for our school-wide reading celebration! Her presentation shared personal family adventures and the stories behind her books. She encouraged the students to participate and kept our young readers engaged. Students are seeking out her books to check out from the media center and talking about the experience. A second grade student sums it up best, “You have amazing and cool stories. Can you please come back?”
— Susan Equils, Media Coordinator Anderson Creek Primary School

I like to talk to adults too. I'm available to speak on a panel or to lead a workshop.

  • My presentation, Engineering a Picture Book, shows writers how they can take an idea from "art to part" using the design cycle.
  • I can share my first-hand knowledge about writing picture books, finding an agent, and getting published. There is so much that books and websites don't tell you, but I will.
